Kodiak
The primary mission of the MH-60T Jayhawk helicopters at Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak is to conduct all-weather, long-range search and rescue (SAR) operations across a vast and often treacherous region. đ Covering a 4-million-square-mile area of responsibility that includes the Gulf of Alaska, Bristol Bay, the Bering Sea, and Alaska's Pacific coast, these helicopters are essential for rescuing mariners in distress, responding to emergencies in remote locations, and performing medical evacuations (medevacs) when other air assets can't reach a person in need. Beyond SAR, the Jayhawk crews at Kodiak also perform law enforcement missions, such as patrolling offshore fisheries to enforce regulations and deter illegal activities. The helicopterâs advanced avionics, sensors, and long range capabilities make it well-suited for the challenging weather and geographic conditions of Alaska, ensuring that the Coast Guard can effectively carry out its critical missions in one of the most demanding operational environments in the world.
